Founded in 2003, the Rhode Island Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society is an all volunteer, independent 501©(3), nonprofit, diverse membership organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the African American legacy, heritage, tradition and history of the rhythm & blues music style through activities, events and public education. Among its many services, the Society provides instruments to underprivileged children, financial assistance to nonprofit organizations that provide and/or support afterschool music programs for underprivileged kids and educational projects and programs to support and improve public awareness of the music style and its local history. |

August is the official Rhode Island Rhythm & Blues Heritage Month RIRBPS is having some great R&B events throughout the month free to the public. The events are designed to recognize this historical month that also recognizes the 159 year old blues to R&B filled Emancipation Day tradition that was celebrated annually in the RI Colored Community on August 1st before going into hibernation since the 60s. R&B VOCALIST “CLARICE” PERFORMS WITH PROF COATES
Clarice Smith, a local R&B to jazz song stylist will also be performing with the Prof Coates and the Dynamics band at the Rhode Island R&B Heritage Festival, 4 PM - 8 PM at Burnside Park in downtown Providence on August 30, 2008. |
